Going Green

It’s hard to imagine that the asphalt paving industry is a green industry but it is!

Asphalt paving was one of the first industries to seek out ways to have as little an impact on the earth’s environment as possible. For that reason, many years ago, the industry began to recycle old and broken asphalt pavement in ways that would make its reuse possible.

Here are some results from a survey by the National Asphalt Paving Association:

  • RAP or recycled asphalt pavement is 100% recyclable.

  • The amount of RAP used in asphalt pavement averages 100 million tons per year.

We are proud to say that Durell Paving Incorporated fully supports this trend and we work partner with suppliers who share our common goal of zero waste.

Our initiatives include:

  • Organic materials taken off a job site are separated and brought to our facility for reuse.

  • Gravel based materials are returned to aggregate plants to be re-crushed for use as base aggregates.

  • A portion of every ton of asphalt brought to our jobs contains RAP. The amount varies by the type of asphalt we are using.

  • We have a No-Idle policy on our job sites whenever possible.

  • All of our trucks contain a spill kit to minimize unforeseen events.
